Wayward seal spotted wandering across Papakura, chased by police
A seal has been causing a splash in Papakura after it was spotted hopping across driveways along Great South Road on Friday morning.
Police said they’ve been busy “sealing off” the area along Coles Crescent to make sure the “furry friend is kept safe”.
“It appears a seal is trying out their land flippers,” a police spokesperson said.
Connor Duffus, a local worker, spotted the seal as it “bounded across” the Domino’s driveway around 10.30am.
“We were watching as it hopped from our drive to the church next door. It was like the size of a golden retriever,” he said.
The seal didn’t stay around for long, it was on a mission.
”I’ve never heard of a seal bounding the main street before – it was new to me,” he said.
Duffus said an officer popped in for pizza and told him the cops were hot the seal’s tail.
Department of Conversation have been contacted for comment.
This isn’t the first time a seal has gone street hopping In 2015 firefighters and police officers, made a contraption from sheets of plywood and old gates to usher a seal from a south Auckland street.
