Do you choose to live in a van? What’s it like?

WRITE ON STUFF: Is living in a house with wasted space and a backyard that never changes boring to you? Have you chosen van life over a traditional living situation?

Many people throughout New Zealand have, including the MacLeod family. Andrew and Tracey MacLeod, and their two young sons Luke and Brodie live life on the road in a caravan. They were living in Invercargill when they were bitten by the van-life bug – now, they reckon they’ll never live in a house again. Their caravan cost them $70,000, and they bought a new truck to pull the camper, bringing the spend on their new lifestyle to just over $100,000.

Irene and Vince Iwikau, both 68, spent 15 months living in their motorhome and saving a minimum of $150 a fortnight from their superannuation.

Chelsea and Bronson Dredge, and their children Harvey, Ruby, and Piper spent 15 fun months living in a 10m² caravan. The kids were all under four at the time.

Meanwhile, Sophie Piearcey and her husband Robbie Collins spend around four months every year travelling around New Zealand in a van. Piearcey documents scenery for clients such as Kathmandu, Jetstar and GoPro.

We want to hear from people who choose to live in a van campervan, or caravan instead of a house.
