Police are investigating after a rubbish blaze caught a Timaru building on fire.
Emergency services were called to Butler St in Timaru just after 6.30pm on Wednesday, Fire and Emergency Southern shift manager Lynn Crosson said.
Firefighters received multiple calls about smoke coming from the building, she said.
Crews arrived to find a rubbish fire at the rear of the building which had spread to the nearby structure.
Crosson said the damage was limited and left the scene in the hands of the building’s owner who was waiting for police to arrive due to the suspicious nature of the blaze.
A police spokesperson said officers were making inquiries into the cause of the blaze.
