The person is understood to have knocked on the building manager’s unit to ask for help.

An investigation is under way after a person was fatally stabbed at an Auckland apartment complex on Wednesday afternoon.

The stabbing took place in the foyer of the building on Upper Queen St, according to an email sent to residents of the apartment block in Auckland’s CBD.

The victim knocked on the door to the building manager’s unit after the stabbing, the email said.

An ambulance was called, but “unfortunately this person passed away on site”.

“We do not know who was stabbed, or who by.”

According to Detective Inspector Scott Beard of the Auckland City CIB, two people are in custody following the death and an investigation is under way.

At 1.13pm, emergency services responded to reports of one person with injuries at a residential address on Upper Queen St, Beard said.

They died after being taken to hospital, he said.

“The two people are currently assisting police with enquiries as we work to determine the circumstances of the death.”

A scene guard remained in place at 2.30pm.

More to come.
