Glow Dark Street Dance: 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Friday – beginners street dance, and 6pm to 8pm on Saturday – intermediate street dance, Timaru’s best dance workshop this year at St Mary’s Hall, 24 Church St. Immerse yourself in the grooves and moves of street dance under UV backlights. $25 per workshop or $40 for both.

Welcoming Week 2023: A celebration of the district for newcomers and locals. On Friday, a Connect and Play Playgroup will take place at 44-46 Rothwell St, Timaru, from 9.30am to 11.30am, as well as Learn To Dance with Stepright Dance NZ at 6pm at The Scottish Hall, 20 Barnard St. The Immigrant Journey Exhibition will be held at Timaru Library from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, and 1pm to 4pm on Sunday.
Spring Exhibition: 10 to 4pm each day, the annual South Canterbury Art Society display at 22 Gleniti Rd, Timaru. Free admission, pay and take away.
Saturday
Third Birthday and Father’s Day Spring Market: 9am to 12.30pm at 2 George St (in front of Speight’s Ale House), the Timaru Artisan Farmers’ Market will celebrate its third year at its new spot, with a new name, as well as all the fathers in the region.
The Scenic Circles Backyard Ultra: 10am at Centennial Park, Timaru, the town’s first official backyard ultra. Those taking part will be running around the park, every hour, on the hour, until only one runner is left standing. There will be running, food, coffee, music and more.
Saturday Laughs in Fairlie: 8pm at the Mackenzie Community Centre, a comedy showcase with comedians Jeremy Elwood and Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Georgie Sivier and Timaru original Rhian Wood-Hill. Tickets $39.18. An R-18 event.
Steve Nally Memorial Open Mic Nite: 7pm at the Timaru South Cossie Club, all of Nally’s friends are invited with a variety of musicians ready to share their memories, with room for anyone else who would like to share.
Sunday
All Australian Car Show: 9am to noon at the Caroline Bay Virtue Rd entrance. $10 entry for display vehicles, a gold coin donation for spectators. All proceeds to the Westpac Helicopter Appeal.
In Motion NZ Pop Up Cruise: 10am from Sir Basil Arthur Park in Timaru, meet new people then cruise to Lake Tekapo for scenic photos. Family friendly and a chance to meet like-minded car enthusiasts.
Wool on Wheels Pop Up: 1pm to 4pm at the Caroline Bay Community Lounge. Representing more than 40 brands of wool. Bring patterns, stash yarn, a mask, and completed projects. A $2 door charge.
Blessing of the Animals: 10am at St Mary’s Church, Timaru, all creatures great and small are to the annual animal service. Those animals brought to the service will receive a blessing from the vicar. Donations accepted for Street Cats South Canterbury and the SPCA. The children’s choir will also perform at the service.

Aigantighe Art Gallery: Open noon to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday.
South Canterbury Museum: 1pm to 4.30pm, Saturday and Sunday with free admission. Two floors of exhibitions relating to local nature, history and culture. Latest exhibition The Royal Connection.
South Canterbury Genealogy Society: 1.30pm to 3.30pm, every Sunday at the South Canterbury Museum. Members will be at the museum to assist other people with their family history queries.
Geraldine Craft and Produce Market: 8.30am to 3.30pm every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday in Cox St.
York St Gallery of Fine Art: Open Friday and Saturday, 11am to 3pm, and anytime by appointment. Claire Forbes exhibition runs until October 12.
