An Australian digital marketing agency has rolled out a “weight management” plan to staff with the offer of providing funds for drugs which can’t be used for weight loss in the country.
Melbourne-based Conversion Digital, which has a workforce of over 70 employees, sent a mass email to staff with the promise of a monthly budget of AU$200 to be spent on medication to promote “personal wellness”, according to New.com.au.
The email clarified staff “aren’t medical professionals,” however, their “global footprint and international team have opened our eyes to revolutions happening around the world”.
“Below are two options that might pique your interest. These are uncharted territories, and while we aren’t medical professionals, we can share the impact we’ve observed overseas,” the email continued.
Ozempic and Wegovy were listed as the company’s options for staff, despite neither drug being approved for weight-loss use in Australia.
Though they share the same active ingredient – semaglutide – the drugs are sold under different names and branded to specific groups.

Conversion Digital’s email to staff stated the company would keep employees “updated” if Wegovy is approved for use.
Ozempic is a medication for those living with type 2 diabetes, while Wegovy is a newer weight-loss treatment prescribed in higher doses.
Both drugs, prominently Ozempic, have seen a surge in interest over the past year as their off-label uses found viral fame from social media and celebrities.
Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration has only approved Ozempic in the nation to manage type 2 diabetes and has been in short supply since April 2022, while Wegovy has not been approved for use in Australia at all.
Conversion Digital’s email to staff stated the company would keep employees “updated” if Wegovy is approved for use.
Clayton Cross, the company’s head of digital strategy, told News.com.au that offering to pay for the drugs “shows a level of care for your staff, and it is also helpful to attract and retain staff.”
“We have clients overseas and their just happy as clams, lost weight, enjoying life, having more sex. It’s quite extraordinary,” Cross said.
