A pair of police officers in Western Australia have been left red faced (and perhaps slightly suntanned) after getting their Toyota Camry police car stuck on a beach.
The police car got bogged down at the popular Wharton Beach in picturesque Esperance – its two-wheel drive format no match for the local dry white sands.
News.com.au reports that the pair of police officers attempted to free their car solo initially, before resigning to asking beach goers for assistance. This eventually came via the driver of an Isuzu MU-X.
In a post shared to social media, Goldfields-Esperance District police appeared to take the incident in its stride – offering a reward of sorts to those that gave the officers a hand.

“Esperance Police would like to welcome [Senior Constable] Neville to the team who started today and found a new way to engage with our wonderful local community,” said the post.
“Thanks to those who gave the guys a hand, reach out so we can let you know when the guys pay their coffee and cake ‘fine’.
“Thankfully no one injured and no damage to the car, their egos are in for repair. If you have photos of video be sure to let us know.”
While taking a two-wheel drive Camry onto a beach like Wharton Beach might seem like an obvious no-no, some locals have indicated on social media that similar cars would ordinarily have no problem driving on and off the beach.
The area has reportedly not seen much rain in recent times, meaning the sand is particularly soft and difficult to traverse.
