Police name the tow people killed in a crash on Domett Rd on April 26.

Police have named the two people who died on April 26 on State Highway 1 in North Canterbury.

The two vehicle crash killed Zejayohn Keyli-West Hurinui, 24, from Cheviot and Anthony Thomas Wood, 69, from Methven, and left another person injured.

“Police extends its condolences to their family and friends at this difficult time,” the statement said.

The crash happened on Domett Rd, just south of the Benmore Stream Bridge in North Canterbury, about 9.15pm and left one other person seriously injured.

A nearby resident, who did not want to be named, said she heard a “bang” on her way to bed at the time.

“When I heard the helicopter come over my house, I looked outside and all the emergency services were there,” she said.

The resident described the area where the two cars crashed as “not flat”, with a dip in the road.

“We don’t tend to have many crashes on there, but it is State Highway 1, so it’s a busy road,” she said.

The police serious crash unit was notified, and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were underway, police said at the time.

Police, St John and Fire and Emergency New Zealand all attended the crash scene.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
