Tom Hanks’ reputation as one of Hollywood’s “nicest guys” seemed to be in trouble as he appeared to have lost his temper at the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival.

The actor, 66, engaged in what seemed like a heated argument with a member of the festival staff while walking down the red carpet with his wife, Rita Wilson, for the premier of his newest film, Asteroid City.

The staff member appeared to be trying to defuse the situation.

After a little while, Hanks and Wilson continued down the red carpet to pose for photographers with smiles all over their faces.

They later joined the ensemble cast of Asteroid City with stars including Scarlett Johansson, Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody, Bryan Cranston, Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton, Maya Hawke, Steve Carrell and Margot Robbie.

A representative for Hanks had been contacted by the Daily Mail for comment but was yet to reply.

Directed by Wes Anderson, Asteroid City is a science fiction romantic comedy-drama that is set in the year 1955.

The story revolves around a Junior Stargazer convention that is held in a fictional American desert town where students and parents from across the country gather for scholarly competitions.
