A car fire in Belgrove, Tasman had closed State Highway 6 at 3.10pm on Thursday as firefighters attended to the blaze.
Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Ryan Dawson said they were alerted to the fire on Berrymans Rd after a 111 call about 2.45pm.
Crews from the Wakefield volunteer fire brigade and the Richmond volunteer fire brigade were sent to the scene where they extinguished the fire by 3.37pm.
Dawson said it was not being treated as suspicious at this time.
Waka Kotahi in a Facebook post advised motorists that the fire had closed the highway until 3.30pm.
SH6 was now operating under stop/go traffic management and a temporary speed restriction in place.
Motorists should take extra care when passing the location and expect some delays.
