Kiwi director Taika Waititi has made his debut appearance in one of his wife Rita Ora’s music videos, with the release of her latest single Don’t Think Twice.

The third single from the pop star’s upcoming album You & I, was directed by the 32-year old’s husband, known more for his blockbuster films Thor and Jojo Rabbit than his music videos.

Filmed in New Zealand, the video sees Ora channelling Katherine from Wuthering Heights and is designed to evoke feelings associated with dreams, nightmares and the spirit world.

But when Ora appears in Aotearoa woods – complete with mist, a dog and a Corolla, and dances in a hoody and shorts – it feels more ET-inspired than anything else. Especially with dramatic Marvel-inspired face makeup and a bicycle making an appearance.

Also dancing nearby is a male shape, likely to be her director husband. For one brief moment Waititi does make a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo – marking his first appearance in one of his wife’s videos.

Ora described the single as being about just jumping in romantically and not thinking twice.

“You only live once, so it’s really about seizing the moment, and not being held back by thoughts of what might or might not happen.”

Don’t Think Twice was co-written by Ora and produced by Oak Felder, and the album You & I is due to be released July 14.

Ora confirmed in May that she and Waititi got married in January, after staying quiet amid months worth of rumours.

Talking about the secrecy of her ceremony, Ora told Glamour magazine this week that she didn’t want any “special attention” on the day.

“Some women like to feel that real special attention that day. And everyone’s different. And for me – I think with my job, it is all… it’s very attention driven – I wanted to keep it private,” she said.

In 2022 Ora performed to a sold-out crowd at the half-time show of the opening day of the Women’s Rugby World Cup at Eden Park.
