Hundreds of children are ready to perform as all the pupils at a Palmerston North school prepare to bring three separate stories to the stage.

College Street Normal School is holding its production at The Regent on Broadway on Friday night, with the entire school involved.

There are three shows: The Goblins Next Door, which is being done by all the junior pupils, Alice The Musical by the middle section of the school and Out Of This World by the seniors.

The Goblins Next Door and Alice The Musical are musicals the school has acquired the rights to, but Out Of This World is one the senior pupils wrote and choreographed themselves.

Alice The Musical is a take on Alice In Wonderland book by Lewis Carroll and The Goblins Next Door is about two goblins who move in next to “gentle folk” who learn about the school’s 10 competencies values, which include kindness, creativity, respect and communication.

In Out Of This World, a “meanie” steals the school’s competencies and values, and hides them in space.

The children have to travel to planets to find them and return them to earth.

Three of the lead actors in Out Of This World are Tanzi Good, 10, Lexi Keane, 11, and Hridaansh Chettri, 10.

Lexi said she had enjoyed watching everyone work on their parts, then put it together for their performance.

“It’s been fun and exciting. Sometimes you get nervous, you realise you’re going to be doing it on the day in front of thousands of people.

“It’s really fun to experience something new.”

Tanzi said she had enjoyed working with the other children and learning the dances.

Hridaansh said he was amazed to have seen the script written down at the start and now to be about to perform it.

“It’s a really good experience.”

There are three shows at the Regent on Friday, at 5pm, 6pm and 7.15pm.

It will be the first time the school has performed at the venue since 2016.
