Motorists are being advised to avoid the area.

Three people have been injured – one critically and one seriously – after a crash in Turakina.

A police spokesperson said emergency services were called to the intersection of Wanganui and Gowers roads about 2.05pm on Wednesday, about 20 mins south of Whanganui.

”Initial reports suggest one person is in a serious condition and one person is in a moderate condition,” the spokesperson said.

“The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.”

The road was closed as emergency services worked, however, it was reopened just before 8pm.

A St John spokesperson said they assessed and treated three patients, one in A critical condition, one in A serious condition and one person in A moderate condition.

“All [were] transported to Whanganui Base Hospital,” the spokesperson said.
