Palmerston North’s mobile library visits are more welcome than ever while two community libraries remain closed.

Leaky library syndrome has temporarily closed a second Palmerston North community library.

First it was Awapuni, and now it is Roslyn as well.

The Roslyn Library closed on May 19 because of moisture and maintenance issues, the cause of which is still being investigated.

City council group manager for community services Anton Carter said the library would not reopen until at least June 6.

“We will have a better understanding of the issues and what repair work is required after investigations are complete.”

The closure follows leaks at the Awapuni Library, which closed in April after water was discovered under the flooring.

The temporary closure, which is expected to continue until the end of May, has now been extended to the end of June.

The floor tiles are being removed, and new flooring is expected to be laid.

“We’ll continue working with our awesome community partners to offer our popular programmes in the area,” Carter said.

Some activities are being held close by at St Matthew’s Church and the Panako Place guide hall.

For those in Roslyn, held items can be picked up from the Central Library.

The mobile library is making extra visits to Awapuni.

Updates on community library services and activities are available at the City Library website.
