Police say they are trying to locate the offenders.
The occupants of a stolen car who rammed police then went on to violently carjack an elderly driver have not been found, police say.
Police signalled for the driver of the car to stop on Botanical Rd in Palmerston North at 5pm on Thursday, but a spokesperson said a police car was rammed before the vehicle fled.
It was then spiked by police but spotted in Feilding an hour later, they said.
“The occupants of the car stopped a vehicle on Churcher St, Feilding and allegedly presented a weapon (not a firearm) at the motorist before taking the vehicle.

“The innocent motorist sustained moderate injuries. They were transported to hospital for medical treatment and are being supported by police.”
One of those alleged to be involved was seen later that night driving in Palmerston North.
”This vehicle was followed for a period of time at legal road speed.
“Given the immediate threat to the public, a vehicle stop was attempted but the vehicle fled and a pursuit was authorised.”
The vehicle was found in Ashhurst on Saturday.
The spokesperson said police were following “positive lines of inquiry to locate the people involved in these incidents”.
Stuff understands the victim was an elderly woman and approached her daughter for comment.
She said the family did not want to speak, but in a Facebook post said they wanted “the people who did this to her to be found before they hurt someone else”.
“They are dangerous and have access to weapons.”
Her post said a man rushed at her mother with a machete and dragged her from her car “throwing her to the ground and took off after running her over.
“She has a broken shoulder, scrapes, bruising and what looks to be a cut (thankfully only a few stitches needed) from the machete.”
Manawatū district mayor Helen Worboys said the carjacking and a firearms incident in the town on Saturday were concerning.
She hoped the elderly victim and her family were getting the support they needed.
“The time before we had this one where another guy was being chased and took a lady’s car. Took her on the ride in the car and then pushed her out.
“I met with her several times. Unfortunately she’s passed away now but I know the impact that had on her.”
Worboys said most offenders came from outside the town.
“The key thing around all this is there’s something going wrong with society on all levels.”
She was tired of politicians using crime as a “political football” and said the issues contributing to crime weren’t going to solve themselves.
“You know, people get really scared about this kind of stuff and unless they can see that there is something changing to stop these kinds of things happening, people out there, they’re going to be scared.
“So I’m really concerned about it.”
Anyone with information was asked to call police on 105 and reference file number 230309/2442.
