In Dubai: New Zealand 166-5 in 20 overs (Will Young 56 from 46 balls, Mark Chapman 51 from 32; Junaid Siddique 3-26 from 4 overs) beat UAE 134-7 in 20 overs (Aayan Afzal Khan 42 from 36 balls; Ben Lister 3-35 from 4 overs) by 32 runs.

The presence of Will Young helped New Zealand bounce back from a surprise loss to win their Twenty20 series against the UAE.

Young, batting for the first time in the three-match series in Dubai, made 56 from 46 balls at No.3 to give the Black Caps’ batting some much-needed solidity.

Mark Chapman featured for the second consecutive encounter with a punishing half-century as the visitors triumphed by 32 runs to win the series 2-1, after losing game two the previous day by seven wickets.

New Zealand also fielded two debutants, with young legspinner Adithya Ashok capturing his first wicket fo the national side.

Batting first for the third time, NZ made their highest tally of the series in reaching 166-5, with Young and Chapman adding 84 for the third wicket in 10 overs.

Young got off the mark with a streaky boundary as he edged the second delivery he faced past wicketkeeper Aryansh Sharma but kept his poise to hit seven fours and a six, while Chapman added five fours and two sixes to set up a taxing chase for the hosts.

The other Black Caps debutant, Dean Foxcroft, made 10 from as many deliveries at No.5.

The visitors picked up wickets regularly to slow the UAE chase, with Ashok taking his first international wicket when having the dangerous Asif Khan caught at long-on in his second over. The 20-year-old finished with figures of 1-28 from his four overs.

Aayan Afzal Khan led the home side’s reply with 42 from 36 balls at No.7 as NZ convincingly kept them at bay, with left-arm seamer Ben Lister taking 3-35 from his four overs.

New Zealand now heads to England to play four T20Is and four ODIs against the hosts as they build up to the World Cup starting in India in October.

Seven of the players which contested the series against the UAE – including Young, Ashok and Foxcroft – will be replaced in the T20 squad for the England series.
