Wendy’s announced to fast food fans that certain stores have run out of gas.
As the worldwide shortage of CO2 affects brewers, fast food chains are also starting to run out of gas, with some Wendy’s stores not able to offer the usual range of fizzy drinks.
Wendy’s wrote on its Facebook page that their Values Meals and Mates Rates will be cheaper because some stores may not be able to offer drinks with them.
Wendy’s also sent an email with the news to its mailing list, in which they explained that due to “the current worldwide shortage of CO2 some stores may not be able to offer the drinks with the Value Meals and Mates Rates (meal deals) – because of this Value Meals and Mates Rates will be offered at a lower rate.”

Last month, several key exporters and industry bodies for CO2 indicated the shortage was at most a slow-burning issue for them or their members, rather than an immediate crisis.
Craft brewers, at least one meat processing company, and horticultural firm NZ Gourmet have reported impacts on their businesses.
In Wendy’s Facebook post, the chain asked its customers to check with staff whether CO2 drinks were available when they placed their order.
Wendy’s has 22 locations across New Zealand. A local spokesperson has been approached for comment.
