SH25 is still closed between Ruamahanga Bay and Tapu on the Coromandel due to a slip with suspended trees.
Progress is being made on restoring access to the Coromandel after numerous roads were forced to close due to carnage left behind by Cyclone Gabrielle.
Only certain sections of State Highway 25 are open between Thames and Matarangi, for essential travel only.
Waka Kotahi said the slips between Hikuai and Whangamatā have now been cleared.

When the Makarika River broke its banks, several Māori families were in the firing line.
”This means people in towns on the east coast like Whitianga and Tairua can now leave the peninsula and supplies can get in.”

There is, however, an emerging risk posed by a slip with suspended trees on SH25 between Ruamahanga Bay and Tapu on the Thames-Coast Highway and the road is closed.
For now only emergency services and civil defence can get through via private land, which is unavailable to the public.
Other parts of SH25 are open, but it’s for essential travel only. And Waka Kotahi say that many of the areas are one lane only and motorists should expect significant disruption and delays with the cleanup works.
State Highway 2 between Paeroa and Waihī is now open – having been closed through the Karangahake Gorge – although this is also for essential travel only.
People are urged to be cautious of remaining debris, mud on the road and slippery surface areas.

Power is also being reconnected to those around the Waikato region – Waipā Networks said on Wednesday night they had restored power to 7500 properties, with around 400 customers still without power.
”We are working to further reduce that number as quickly as possible.”
