Breakfast, motorbikes and cars are on the menu for the Father’s Day event, run by, from left, Luton Anderson, Richard Bateman and Aaryn Nicholson, and featuring Bateman’s ‘71 HQ Holden, transformed from its original camel colour to vibrant orange.
Hot rods, vintage cars, and “anything you like with wheels” will be on display for a Dads’ Day Breakfast at Riverlands Roadhouse next week.
Organiser Luton Anderson says anyone is welcome, especially with children, to check out the lineup and share breakfast at the Roadhouse on State Highway 1, just south of Blenheim, from 8am to 11am on Sunday, September 3.
Anderson will be there with his 1956 Ford 100 Panel truck, the only one in New Zealand, from Omaha Nebraska, and his 7-year-old son Donnachad will ride shotgun.
Aaryn Nicholson, who has always been into bikes, plans to cruise in on a British Enfield bought new last year, with his 7-year-old son Benjamin as pillion passenger, and his 20-year-old son Jonty in a Beetle Brigade, one seven VWs in the household collection.
A free bouncy castle will add to the entertainment for children.
The cars and bikes will then cruise out to the Trout Hotel at Canvastown for a “show and shine”, with prizes on offer including for the publican’s choice of vehicle.
Donations will be collected towards I Am Hope, which promotes positive attitudes to mental health and helps young people access urgent help.

“We’ve lost mates to suicide during the Covid lockdown and over the years,” Anderson said.
“This is a cause close to our hearts. If we can help save even one kid’s life, and let people know we care about them, this is so worthwhile.”
A couple of volunteers who answered a Facebook plea for extra hands at what was last year a 230-car event, said they were motivated by suicide having touched their lives.
