Black Cap Devon Conway scored 47 runs as the Chennai Super Kings charged to a dramatic five-wicket victory over the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League T20 final on Tuesday morning (NZT).

Chennai opener Conway cracked two sixes and four boundaries as he contributed his 47 runs off 25 balls, before being dismissed in the seventh over.

Conway was the best performer with the bat for Chennai, but it was Ravindra Jadeja who produced the heroics at the 100,000-capacity Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With two balls remaining, Jadeja snared an improbable victory by scoring a six and a four off the last two balls by Mohit Sharma to run down Gujarat’s revised target of 171 runs.

When Jadeja struck the winning runs there were wild scenes within the stadium as Chennai players ran on to the field to surround their team-mate. The fans joined in the frenzied celebrations to express their joy after it appeared Chennai had blown the chance of winning due to a sluggish run-rate late in the game.

Gujarat scored 214-4 off 20 overs before rain forced the target to be reduced. Chennai required 171 to win off 15 overs.

Chennai, led by veteran Mahendra Singh Dohni, were playing a record 10th IPL final and looking for a record-equalling fifth title.
