The moment a bridge on the Manawatū River succumbed to the force of Cyclone Gabrielle has been captured on video.
Dead wood built up in flood waters forced the bridge, in the Tararua district town of Dannevirke, down the Manawatū River on Tuesday.
A local resident told 1News he had been “keeping an eye” on the river, which had risen two-to-three metres overnight.
He said he went down just after lunch on Tuesday and was just in time to see the bridge pushed over.
