Students and staff have been evacuated from the University of Auckland’s medical sciences
Students and staff have been evacuated from the University of Auckland’s medical sciences building as emergency services work to neutralise an explosive substance.
Fire and Emergency assistant commander Dave Gatton said crews were liasing with the bomb squad to “neutralise an explosive substance”.
Fire and emergency services were called to the building about 1.42pm on Monday after reports of a hazardous substance on site.
“There’s bottles of a substance that’s hazardous with movement inside,” he said.
Park Rd is being shut by police and FENZ as they set up a cordon to deal with the situation.
There are four fire trucks, including a hazardous materials command unit on site.
Photos from the scene show students and staff hanging around in the courtyard outside the building.
