Matildas superstar Sam Kerr has belatedly announced her arrival at the FIFA Women’s World Cup with a goal of the tournament contender.

Kerr scored a wonder goal in the 63rd minute of Australia’s semifinal against England at Stadium Australia.

Kerr beat England goalkeeper Mary Earps with a stunning strike from well outside the penalty area after receiving the ball on halfway.

The Chelsea striker dribbled at defenders Millie Bright and Jess Carter – two of her club teammates – before unleashing an unstoppable strike from more than 20 metres out.

Kerr was included in the starting lineup for the first time at the World Cup after battling with a calf injury throughout the early stages of the tournament.

Her goal drew the Matildas level at 1-1 after Ella Toone gave England a first-half lead, however a mistake from Ellie Carpenter allowed the Lionesses to reclaim the lead eight minutes later.

The winner of the second semifinal will play Spain in the decider on Sunday.
