Emergency services were called to a fire at Wellington’s Moa Point wastewater treatment plant about 4.30pm on Wednesday.

Eight fire crews attended the fire, which was put out by 9pm.

Wellington Assistant Commander Martin Wilby said toxic gases remain inside the facility.

Wellington City council spokesperson Richard MacLean described it as a “fairly minor incident” which appeared to have been caused by some mechanical fault.
