A house fire left one person in a moderate condition at Taranaki Base Hospital on Friday morning.

One person was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital in a moderate condition as a result of a house fire in Glenpark Ave, New Plymouth on Friday morning.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said the house was well-involved when they arrived at the scene around 9:30am.

Three crews from New Plymouth were sent to the scene. After extinguishing the fire they remained on scene to clean up and check for hotspots, they said.

The spokesperson said all people were accounted for and a specialist fire investigator had been called in.

Hato Hone St John Siobhan Campbell said one person in a moderate condition was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital.

One ambulance and one rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene, she said.

A witness at the scene said one of two adjoining houses was still emitting smoke at 10am and the smell of smoke in the area was quite strong.
