The hotelier son of a Taranaki grocer has signed a deal with a Chinese state-owned tourism company that could help him expand his chain of hotels from 125 to 530 in the next seven years.
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Swiss-Belhotel International, run by Gavin Faull, and CTG Hotel, part of the China Travel Group which is the biggest tourism enterprise in China.
Faull told the New Zealand Herald the aim of the strategic partnership was to develop a platform for CTG Hotel and Swiss-Belhotel International to develop dual branding cooperation and diversified business development in China and abroad for both groups with a strong international perspective.
Faull, Swiss-Belhotel’s chairman and president, is a brother of Sir Richard Faull, a world renowned neuroscientist.
Their father owned a grocery store in Tikorangi in rural Taranaki for more than 50 years and his five sons went to Waitara High School and New Plymouth Boys’ High School.
Faull is also involved with Faull Farms – Trewithen Farm – the Tikorangi farm that has been in the family for generations.
The Swiss-Belhotel International is a global hotel management company that operates 125 hotels and projects under 16 brands in 19 countries in Central Asia, Indonesia, The Middle East, Australia and New Zealand with 10 regional management hubs.
Faull has had more than 35 years of experience in hotel management, operations and business development.
Before taking over the helm of Swiss-Belhotel International he held senior management roles at The Peninsula Group Hong Kong and Kingsgate International Corporation.
One of the fastest growing hotel and hospitality management groups, Swiss-Belhotel International is committed to substantially increasing its operating portfolio to over 530 properties by 2030.
Faull’s three sons, Oliver, Edward and Matthew, are all involved in the business.
In 2017 the Faull family gave an undisclosed cash donation to help in the rebuilding of St Mary’s Cathedral in New Plymouth.
