Taranaki Maunga is unlikely to be visible this weekend with rain forecast all day Saturday with isolated showers on Sunday.
As many weather watchers will recognise, the arrival of a weekend often coincides with the departure of fine weather and, unfortunately, this weekend is no exception.
While those in the deep south of New Zealand suffered a weather-borne state of emergency this week, Taranaki basked in hot, humid and only slightly damp conditions that made it feel like summer had arrived early.
Hopes the hottest season would be here ahead of schedule are likely to be dashed on Saturday, with a heavy rain warning issued by Metservice for the 22 hours from 6am.
Night-time temperatures will also be noticeably cooler, with a low of 8 degrees Celsius forecast for Saturday, which may mark a high point in overnight lows for the next few days.
Sunday is forecast to show glimpses of sun between showers, before the rain returns on Monday, bringing cooling winds and cooler temperatures with it.
Those looking for an inside activity on Saturday could head to the TSB Stadium from 10am for Senior Basketball Finals Day. Entry is free.
On Saturday night, put on your woolies to watch Yarrows Taranaki Bulls take on the blue and white of Auckland at Yarrow Stadium, kicking off at 7.05pm.
Get there by 4.45pm to see the Taranaki Under-18 Girls take on their Waikato counterparts.
