The Invercargill resident woke the intruder in their home.
Police are appealing to the public for help to find an intruder.
In a statement, released on Thursday, Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Baird said police were notified of an incident on Conyers St in Invercargill on February 15 at 2am.
A resident had awoken to an intruder in their home.
The mysterious invader left the scene once the resident confronted them.
Police had completed a scene examination and were now appealing to the public for help, he said.
Baird said police wanted to hear from anyone who had witnessed suspicious activity in the area around that time.
Anybody with any information could phone police on 105.
