With only two months remaining until the general election the Labour Party dropped a drastic 4% while National has jumped up 2%.
The 1News Varien Poll released on Monday night showed the National Party reaching 37% and Labour dropping to 29%.
NZ First was at a striking distance of the 5% political threshold, rising to 4% and ACT went up 1% to sit at 13%. The Green Party went up 2 points at 12% and Te Pāti Māori sat at 3%.
Translated to seats in Parliament, that would mean with a combination of National’s 48 seats and ACT’s, there would be a total of 65 seats – which is more than the 61 needed to form a Government.
While Labour with 37 seats, the Green Party with 15 and Te Pāti Māori with 3, the trio would have 55 seats in total.
These were the Labour Party’s lowest polling numbers in six years.
