One police officer was seen using an angle grinder to break into a locked safe.
A mystery safe appeared to be at the centre of a police investigation in the Christchurch suburb of Heathcote valley this morning.
Around 8am, around a dozen armed officers pulled up to a section on Port Hills Road.
The unusually large police presence piqued the interest of locals out for their morning walks.
“They have some pretty dodgy people going in there at strange hours,” one woman said.
She said one of the men living there seemed to sleep all day and work all night.
