A man was found passed out at a McDonald’s drive-thru.

A man was found slumped over his steering wheel at a McDonald’s drive-thru, his night was about to get worse.

Police were called to McDonald’s Anderson Bay, Dunedin, on Sunday about 2am.

It was there they found a 39-year-old man passed in his vehicle while in the drive-thru, Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said.

Officers invoked a warrantless search of vehicle, and located a small combo – of the illegal kind.

The man had in his possession ‘fantasy’ GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid), MDMA and cocaine.

He underwent a compulsory impairment test, which he failed.

The man was summonsed to appear in court for driving while impaired, while his licence was suspended for 28 days.

It was a busy night for police in the city, after the sold-out Bledisloe Cup match on Saturday.

Other call-outs included a 22-year-old woman who spotted two males tagging a fence on Gowland St in the city’s student quarter on Saturday, shortly before midnight.

The men saw her taking a picture of their parked car, with one of the males grabbing her in a bear hug, before grabbing her phone and throwing it across the road.

The car has driven south, but police had the registration number and the investigation was ongoing, Bond said.

The most serious incident was on the southern motorway on Saturday, about 6.30pm, with reports a man was spotted walking along the road.

But when officers arrive they found he had been hit by a car, after stepping-out in front of the vehicle, Bond said.

Off-duty St John paramedics were first on the scene with the man taken to Dunedin Hospital with critical injuries.
