More than 580 homes have lost power after a power pole fire in Frankleigh Park in New Plymouth.

More than 580 homes have lost power after a power pole fire in Frankleigh Park in New Plymouth.

More than 500 New Plymouth homes lost power on Thursday morning after a power pole caught fire in Frankleigh Park.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) responded to the incident at 8am with one crew from New Plymouth station.

A spokesperson said upon arrival firefighters found the fire was out and kept the scene safe until a Powerco crew arrived at the scene.

As a result of the fire, power was cut to more than 500 homes. By 12.30pm power had been restored to the affected properties.

This comes after about 586 customers lost power to their homes due to the power pole fire, on Budleigh St early on Wednesday morning.
