Racquel Cleaver-Pittams has been elected on to the South Taranaki District Council following a by-election.
The by-election was needed for the remaining Te Hāwera general ward councillor position, after nobody stood for the seat in October’s local body elections.
Cleaver-Pittams had a comfortable win in the by-election, receiving 1138 votes, well ahead of Cheval Graham, who received 678 votes, while Tim Dickson had 179.

Two people stood for the seat, with Bronwyn Wattrus receiving 470 votes and Ngapari Nui 215.
