Football Ferns v Philippines.
On today’s episode of Newsable: can the Football Ferns write another page of sporting history? The world’s biggest democracy sees its systems tested; the stew that’s been bubbling away for nearly two months; and the world’s most mischievous otter.
Newsable is brought to you by BNZ.
Morning team – not quite the result the Footy Ferns wanted against the Philippines last night but never mind, qualification for the round of 16 is still very much in our hands so GO ON YOU GOOD THINGS.
Anyway – to the show, and this is a happy segue, because our first chat today is about the implications of the Football Ferns’ result on our chances for the rest of the tournament. Could we go all the way? Statistically yes, there is a greater-than-zero chance of that happening. And hey, Greece won Euro 2004. Denmark won a tournament in the ‘90s they didn’t even qualify for! Let’s jump on board and enjoy the ride.
After that, we’re heading to the subcontinent and the world’s largest democracy, India. The thing is, many experts fear those democratic systems are being put under pressure by an increasingly nationalistic and intolerant government.
Then we’re heading Stateside to New York City, where a rather unusual culinary phenomenon is unfolding day-by-day: a perpetual stew has been cooking for 47 days at a park in the Big Apple, with hundreds of people turning up every day to grab a bowl and add an ingredient or two. We chat to one of the good people behind the idea about how it came to pass – and the interesting flavours they come up with.
And finally, we meet the otter terrorising surfers on the USA’s west coast. Yep, you read that right.
Have a goodie, and we’ll catch you tomorrow,
Emile
