A silver Ford Laser crashed into a tree about 2.15am on Thursday morning at the Tweed St and Elles Rd roundabout, by Rugby Park. The occupant was taken to Southland Hospital in a serious condition.

A person was taken to Southland Hospital in a serious condition after their car crashed into a tree at an Invercargill roundabout on Thursday morning.

Hato Hone St John spokesperson Gerard Campbell said they were notified at 2.18am of a crash at the intersection of Tweed St and Elles Rd.

He said two ambulances were sent to the scene and one ambulance took the patient to hospital in a serious condition.

A police spokesperson said when they got to the scene the driver of the car was bleeding from the head.

A fire and emergency spokesperson said they assisted police and ambulance with two crews, one from Invercargill and one from Kingswell.
