Police are at the scene of a fatal stabbing at an apartment complex in central Auckland.
Tensions are heightened in the central city after a spate of fatal incidents in the area in recent weeks.
Last Wednesday, 70-year-old Herbert Bradley was fatally stabbed at an apartment block on Upper Queen St. A man and woman have been arrested in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, police are still searching for 24-year-old Dariush Talagi after a man was fatally shot in the head on Queen St late at night on a Thursday, August 3.
Another person was also shot in the abdomen during the incident. The shooter fled the scene on a Lime scooter.
On Friday, police searched a house in Mt Wellington, looking for Talagi. He wasn’t there, but police arrested another man who unlawfully had a rifle and a stash of cannabis.
In July, 24-year-old Matu Reid moved through a construction site in the CBD with a pump-action shotgun and killed two workers.
It’s understood the gunman’s motive was to do with his employment at the site.
A police officer was taken to hospital in a critical condition following the incident, while another was sent home to recover from their injuries. Reid, meanwhile, died of a self-inflicted injury, police said.
Police Association president Chris Cahill previously told Stuff that the incident emphasised the need for a gun registry and the tighter firearms laws.
