A rāhui has been placed over Doubtless Bay, in the Far North as search and rescue services continue to look for a missing kayaker.

Police received a report the kayaker was missing in Doubtless Bay at 6.30am Friday.

The person left home at 7pm on Thursday and hadn’t returned as of Friday afternoon.

On Friday, a police spokesperson said they “have since recovered items of interest”. However, they did not describe what those items were or how they were related to the missing person.

On Sunday afternoon police said search efforts were still underway.

The National Dive Squad has been deployed to search in the area Saturday and Sunday, a police spokesperson said.

A police spokesperson said a rāhui spanned from Knuckle Point in the north across to Berghan Point in the south, and included everything back towards the bay.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Parapara Marae said the rāhui would remain over the whole of Doubtless Bay until the person was recovered.
