Rebel Wilson wanted to lose weight during the filming of Pitch Perfect, but her contract required the star to maintain her size for five years.
Wilson, 42, played a character known as ‘Fat Amy’ in the film series
“I couldn’t lose a massive amount of weight, because I was in the contracts for that movie,” Wilson told Alexandra Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast. “You can’t lose, I think it’s not more than 10 lbs. (4.5 kgs) or gain more than 10 lbs (4.5 kgs). You have to kind of stay at the weight that’s in your contract.”
“I had been thinking for a while that I want to get healthier and I was stereotyped in playing that fat, funny friend,” Wilson said, discussing also her roles in Bridesmaids and How to Be Single. “I love doing those roles, I love those characters, but then I did want to do more things. But then I felt like being the bigger girl, you’re just more pigeonholed.”

Wilson said she had gained 45kg in university due to her polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and said she began slimming down as she neared 40 and wanted to become a mother.
In her strides to losing weight, it wasn’t just the Pitch Perfect contract – which lasted from 2012-2017 – that prevented her from starting. Wilson told BBC News in December 2021 that she also didn’t have the full support of those around her at the time.
“I got a lot of pushback from my own team actually, here in Hollywood, when I said ‘Okay, I’m going to do this year of health, I feel like I’m really gonna physically transform and change my life,’ ” Wilson recounted.
“And they were like, ‘Why? Why would you wanna do that?’ Because I was earning millions of dollars being the funny fat girl and being that person,” she said at the time.
In 2022, Wilson announced the arrival of her first child, a baby girl named Royce Lillian via a surrogate.
“Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, born this past week via surrogate,” she wrote in an Instagram post along with a picture of the newborn.
In June 2022, the actress made her relationship with clothing brand founder Ramona Agruma public with a sweet snap of the pair cuddled up close and smiling.
“I thought I was searching for a Disney Prince… but maybe what I really needed all this time was a Disney Princess,” the actress wrote on her post.
