The Eras Tour concert film will be in North American theatres from October 13.
Taylor Swift has announced a concert film of her record-breaking Eras Tour.
Kiwi Swifties have resigned to the fact that our Queen will not be gracing Aotearoa with her presence.
But on Friday morning, we awoke to news that a concert film of The Eras Tour would be hitting North American cinemas on October 13 (of course).
“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” Swift posted.
It was a glimpse of hope for Kiwi Swifties unable to see the concert in Australia that we would get to enjoy the concert on the big screen instead.
But will it even be hitting the big screens in New Zealand? This is what we know, so far:
What will we see in the film?
“We’re about to go on a little adventure together, and that adventure is going to span 17 years of music,” Swift says in the film trailer.
But in typical Swift fashion, she has left us guessing on what we can expect in the film.
It is assumed to be similar to the Reputation Stadium Tour Netflix special – a recording of her Texas performance.
According to AMC Theatres where the film will be shown in North America, the two hour and 45-minute film is a continuation of the “cultural phenomenon” that is The Eras Tour. (It’s worth noting that her concerts have typically spanned over three hours).
APPLE MUSIC
Taylor Swift will be returning to the scene of one of her greatest-ever concerts, Sydney’s Accor Stadium, for three nights during the Australian leg of her Eras Tour next February.
“Immerse yourself in this once-in-a-lifetime concert film experience with a breathtaking cinematic view of the history-making tour,” the threatre said on its website.
Whether there will be any interviews or behind the scenes content, or if it will be just the concert in its entirety, is unknown.
Will we see film in New Zealand?
I’m sorry Swifties, it’s not looking good for us.
Swift’s Instagram post doesn’t say whether the film will eventually be shown outside of North America.

It’s not clear if the Eras Tour concert will end up in Kiwi cinemas.
However, her website states it will be shown “only in theatres in North America”.
Stuff contacted a Kiwi representative of Universal Music to find out whether we could expect to see the film in New Zealand cinemas. However, they were just as in the dark as us.
A Hoyts Cinemas spokesperson said the rights to screen the film are limited to the USA, Canada and Mexico.
“We recognise the demand for this movie and the excitement of local Swifties, and should New Zealand receive the theatrical rights to screen this in cinemas, we will certainly look to participate.
Event Cinemas is yet to respond to questions.
