A man charged with rape in Te Anau has pleaded not guilty.
Aged in his late 60s, the man appeared before Judge Bernadette Farnan in the Invercargill District Court, via audiovisual link, on Tuesday.
Through his lawyer Sonia Vidal, he pleaded not guilty to a charge of rape at Te Anau on or before January 26 this year, and elected trial by jury.

Judge Farnan remanded the man in custody until April 18, when he will next appear in court for a case review hearing.
In a statement on January 30, police said the man was from out of town.
The charge relates to an alleged incident on the Te Anau lakefront.
The man’s interim name suppression continues.
