A third remand prisoner who escaped custody on Auckland’s southern motorway last week has been found, police have confirmed.
The 43-year-old man was found in the West Auckland region overnight and taken into custody.
He was set to appear in the Manukau District Court on Thursday, on charges of breaching court release conditions, offences related to a stolen vehicle and more, police said.
The incident happened around 2.40pm Friday near the Ellerslie-Panmure Highway off-ramp, when a van was heading north towards the Mt Eden Corrections Facility.
Superintendent Shanan Gray said three prisoners fled on foot and stole a member of the public’s vehicle.
They escaped while being transported in a First Security prisoner escort van.
The two other prisoners were arrested on Tuesday.
