Three youths allegedly robbed a convenience store after pulling up in a stolen vehicle and assaulting the shop attendant with a weapon.
The incident happened on Lincoln Rd in Addington, Christchurch, about 3.30pm on Monday.
A police spokesperson said one of the youths assaulted the shop attendant before the trio took cigarettes from a cabinet and fled.
Police arrested one youth and referred them to Youth Aid. The other two people involved had not yet been found.

Police were continuing inquiries, “including viewing CCTV footage of the incident”, a spokesperson said.
The weapon used was not a firearm, but police did not say what it was.
Anyone who was in the area of Lincoln Rd, near Parlane St, about the time of the incident was asked call police on 105 and quote file number 230227/1809.
