A new libraries manager is being sought for the Timaru District.

Former manager Adele Hewlett died in April having held the role since 2018.

The council’s group manager recreational and cultural services Nigel Ingram said its team “had been doing an excellent job in keeping library services running following the sad passing of Adele’’.

”Recruitment of a manager for a specialist position can take some time,’’ he said.

“We’ve been working over this period to ensure we look for the right person who can take the library forward to meet the evolving needs of a changing community.’’

The role for the new manager of the Timaru, Temuka and Geraldine libraries went online on Tuesday morning.

The job was being advertised on Seek as a full-time position, with an annual salary ranging from $110,935 to $130,512.

The council’s job description said the position had a budget responsibility of $1.8 million.

It also required, at a minimum, relevant tertiary qualifications in libraries, but the desired qualification would be a relevant postgraduate library qualification with equivalent workplace experience.

“Are you passionate about fostering knowledge and connecting communities?’’ the Seek advertisement asked.

“We are seeking a dynamic and visionary individual to join our team as a libraries manager.

“This role will be at the forefront of transforming lives through education, inspiration, and meaningful connections.’’

The job was described as a fantastic opportunity for a talented and innovative people leader to manage the council’s library teams.

“High energy, strong communication skills and passion’’ were required for the role, the ad said.

“We are looking for someone who will set the strategic direction, lead ongoing development projects and create a future vision.’’

Applications would close on September 13 at 5pm.
