A group of trespassers climbs onto overhead power lines on South Auckland’s Gloucester Road on Friday at around 4.15pm.

Auckland train commuters are facing delays after a group of young people trespassed on a section of overhead power line.

Southern and Eastern Line trains were cancelled and delayed on Friday at around 4.15pm as emergency services responded to an incident involving trespassers climbing onto high voltage power lines in south Auckland.

A police spokesperson confirmed they had received a report of people near overhead power lines on Gloucester Road [Manurewa].

An AT spokesperson said there were some trespassers who tried to climb on the overhead line near Puhinui Station.

“Power had to be switched off between Puhinui and Papakura while the issue was resolved.

“As a result Southern Line trains are running at a reduced schedule.”
