The rainfall caused further damage to the main roads to Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne, completely destroying a 30-metre section of the Napier-Taupō state highway.
Meanwhile, the chairperson of Te Whatu Ora (Health NZ) is under fire for comments about a National Party policy.
Oppossition parties are pressure the Government to sack Rob Campbell, the chairperson of the health system, as he has made political comments on social media. The Public Service Commissioner’s code of conduct states that crown-entity board members must act in a politically-impartial manner.
On Monday, Hipkins said the comments were “inappropriate for someone holding such a role”.
