The Nelson Centre of the Musical Arts will host young musicians in concert on Saturday.
Emerge: The vibrant talents of Nelson’s gifted youth take centre stage at “Emerge-Rising Talent”. This fundraiser for the Nelson Centre of Musical Arts promises a memorable evening filled with an eclectic mix of musical items from concert bands to chamber music. Admission is free, but your donations to NCMA are gratefully welcomed. Saturday, September 9, from 6pm.
Youth Choir: The Wellington Youth Choir is presenting a concert on Saturday, September 9 at 4pm at the Nelson Christ Church Cathedral. This is the choir’s first time in Nelson since 2016. They are made of around 50 singers from 18 to 27 years old, and will be joined in concert by the Nelson Youth Choir. The choirs will explore a wide range of music, from classical pieces to choral arrangements of modern songs. Tickets for the concert are from $10 and door sales will be available, subject to seating availability. New Zealand International Film Festival: An awesome and diverse selection of movies from all around the globe and some early premieres you can see before their national release dates. Suter Theatre, August 23-September 10, tickets $18 from State Cinemas.
Quiet Dog Gallery: Nelson artist David Ryan’s Last Trace: Pale Ice Dark Light exhibition will open in the gallery at 5.30pm on Friday, September 1 and run until September 30. The exhibition is about the experience of walking in nature and the philosophy that the discoveries made along the way are more important than reaching a destination.
Red Gallery: Artists Lloyd Harwood, Lynette Hirst, Rae West, Russell Frost, Kouka and Lilt Jewellery will join in an exhibition titled Black & White at the gallery, opening Friday September 1 until September 17.
Refinery ArtSpace: See a diverse range of exhibitions including Terra Obscura by photographic artist Clayton Morgan; Will You Collapse In This Recess; The Indivisible View? by poet and artist Rosa McGregor and Te Haerenga, a solo exhibition by Isaac Anderson, and Shelter by textile artist Val Griffith-Jones. Runs until September 9.
Peregrination: New work from established artist Kathy Reilly fills the main gallery in Tākaka’s Art Vault. Reilly’s installations encompass printmaking and audiovisual work inspired by her voyage to the sub-Antarctic islands, exploring the unique pelagic seabirds and landscapes of the isolated islands. 57 Commercial St, Tākaka, until October 2.
Brunch in the Park: The Isel Park market team is bringing a brunch rendezvous on Saturdays over winter. Not a full market, but some food carts, music and a beautiful garden to enjoy. This event will go ahead on fine days only so follow Isel Market social media for updates. Dogs on leads are welcome.

Takaka’s Village Market: Each Saturday at the Takaka Library Carpark, 9am and 1.30pm.
