Friday

FMG Young Farmer of the Year Practical Day: From 7.30pm at the Winchester Showgrounds, an action-packed day including AgriKidsNZ competition, junior competition, NZ Young Farmers Tug-O-War, and agri-sports challenge. Free entry and anyone welcome.

FMG Young Farmer of the Year junior awards and speeches: 5pm at Timaru Girls’ High School, the top-five Junior Young Farmer of the Year teams competing in the face-off, followed by the AgriKidsNZ prizegiving, FMG Young Farmer of the Year speeches, and then the final FMG Junior prizegiving. Tickets $35.

Friday and Saturday

The Cabinet of Karnovach: 7.30pm on Friday and Saturday, and a 2pm matinee on Saturday, at the Playhouse, Timaru, two one-act plays by Ambiversal, a new indie theatrical company. Tickets through iTicket.co.nz.

Saturday

FMG Young Farmer of the Year Grand Final Award: 5pm at the Southern Trust Events Centre. A night of celebrating to cheer on the seven grand finalists and crown the Young Farmer of the Year.

Sunday

Variety Concert: 1.30pm at the Savage Club Hall, Dee St, Timaru, the Midlands Choir and the Savage Club have combined to present the concert. Door sales only, $10.

Pleasant Point Railway: 11am to 3pm, Steaming Day, the 1925 Ford Model T, Rail Car will be operating, also giving rides on the railway, its passenger train hauled by 1878 steam locomotive, D16. The vintage movie theatre and model railway room will also be operating.

Timaru Artisan Farmers’ Market: 9am to 12.30pm, on Saturday at 2 George St. A range of stalls including arts, crafts and plants.

Waimate Community Market: 9am to noon on Saturday at Seddon Sq in Waimate.

Aigantighe Art Gallery: Open noon to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday.

South Canterbury Museum: 1pm to 4.30pm, Saturday and Sunday with free admission. Two floors of exhibitions relating to local nature, history and culture. Latest exhibition The Royal Connection.

South Canterbury Genealogy Society: 1.30pm to 3.30pm, every Sunday at the South Canterbury Museum. Members will be at the museum to assist other people with their family history queries.

Geraldine Craft and Produce Market: 8.30am to 3.30pm every Saturday, Sunday and public holiday in Cox St.

York St Gallery of Fine Art: Open Friday and Saturday, 11am to 3pm, and anytime by appointment. Exhibition Hansen & Higgins – Another Chapter, on now.
