Christchurch’s Taiora QEII swimming pools have been closed after an emergency that left a woman in hospital.

Police were called to assist after a “water related incident” at about 4.15pm on Monday, a spokesperson.

A woman was then taken to hospital by ambulance in a critical condition by Hato Hone St John.

One woman who was there at the time of the incident said on social media a lifeguard told her a woman was being resuscitated.

The facility’s pools, part of a council-owned recreation complex on Travis Rd, have been closed for the rest of the evening.
